   Hi,

I am trying to remove a client completely from the repository with
   several clients.
Since the option 'remove-client' doesn't work I am using
   obnam forget -r <repository> --client-name=<name> --keep=0d

I have a lot of generations for this client in my repository. Obnam
tells me that there are 1696 generations and it is running now for more
than 12 days and only forgot 51. If it proceeds like this it will take
about a year to remove the client completely.
Is there a faster way to do this?
I'd like to backup my other clients and since the forget is running the
repository is locked and nothing can be backed up.

   TIA
   Torsten

   Hi Lars,

   that's really bad news.
Well is there a quick way if I set up a new repository AND move/copy the
data from the clients that I want to keep there and then remove the old
   repository completely?

   Cheers
   Torsten

I'm afraid I have bad new: Obnam is not good at removing a client, and
it's really slow at forgetting generation right now. These are bugs
that will be fixed, but there's unfortunately no expectation that
   it'll happen soon. Sorry.

I'm afraid not, or at least not in a way that gets rid of the data
that belonged only to the client you want to be rid of. Sorry, again.
This isn't Obnam's most glorious part.

In a similar situation I used the technique to pick a few generations at the
time to forget. So not to block the rest of the backups. I then let that
process run a few times each day. But I did not have that many generations to
forget so it took only something like a month to complete ;-)
