   Hi,

   I'm trying to do a backup using "obnam backup" with the attached configuration using obnam from Jessie backports. The output from
   "dpkg -l obnam python-larch" is:

   Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
   | Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
   |/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
   ||/ Name                              Version               Architecture          Description
   +++-=================================-=====================-=====================-========================================================================
   ii obnam 1.17-1~bpo8+1 amd64 online and disk-based backup application
   ii python-larch 1.20131130-1 all B-tree library for Python

   Immediately after trying to start the backup, it fails with the error message

   ERROR: RD5FA4X: System error: /media/ebrangs/FREECOMHDD/obnam/metadata/tmpMpme9w: 28: No space left on device

   However, there seems to be enough space left on the device (about 600GB free from about 3 TB). I tried to throw away old data using

   obnam forget --pretend --keep 72h,7d,5w,12m

   but that lead to a similar error:

   ERROR: RD5FA4X: System error: /media/ebrangs/FREECOMHDD/obnam/./tmpxN7j1P: 28: No space left on device

   If I leave off the "--pretend", it still fails with a similar error (only the naming of the tmp directory differs).

   Can I fix this without starting from scratch with a new repository?

   Kind regards,

   Erik Brangs

   iirc I received this error when I used to use USB based backup drives
   and a connection error was causing the OS to be remounted read-only.

   Double check you can still write to the file system on the off chance
   you're hitting the same problem. If you've already checked that, then
   I'm not sure, that's the only time I've encountered it myself.

   Guess I need more coffee. I meant the OS remounted the USB disk file
   system read-only.
